Gig Night

Originally entitled "Row for the Shore", this piece for Male Voice choir was inspired by the Eight Oar gig races which take place on the Isles of Scilly each year. Its final verse features a part for Solo Tenor, accompanied by the remainder of the choir. The piece uses my own words but incorporates words and phrases used by the gig crews as suggested by a rower. The relaxed pace is intended to reflect the rower’s tired return to land and probably the ‘Mermaid’ pub, at the end of an energetic day’s racing.
